Kevin has been known to occasionally stir the political pot. He received some backlash at the beginning of the Trump administration when he was quoted saying that the president is “highly passionate” and “a pro-business president could be a real asset for the country.”

A few celebrity endorsers for Under Armour expressed criticism for Kevin Plank after his comments regarding Donald Trump. One of the most popular endorsers, NBA star Stephen Curry, expressed concern for the Under Armour company adopting values that were not in line with his own. Curry stated that he had not discussed politics with Kevin Plank in the past; and Kevin’s comments about Trump were not a deal-breaker for him. Curry stated that he aligns with organizations who share his passion for people. Under armour responded to the political criticisms in a statement saying, “We engage in policy, not politics.”

Kevin Plank was among a group of CEOs appointed to Trump’s manufacturing council in the earlier days of the administration. The Under Armour founder met with the president at the white house in early 2017. Kevin Plank subsequently withdrew from the council after Trump failed to condemn the white nationalist group that organized a rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Kevin expressed gratitude to former President George W. Bush after he received a message from Bush stating that he was a good leader for knowing when to step down and empower new leadership for his company. Kevin thanked Bush for his sentiments and spoke about how relevant his comments are today in the wake of the current political climate and transition of power.

Kevin expressed an optimistic vision for national unity, one America, and a new positive chapter in the country. He demonstrated a positive outlook for Under Armour with Patrik Frisk as the new CEO. Kevin stated that he is committed to offering support and partnership to the new frontman of the brand. He remains the chairman and brand chief of the company he founded.
