Min-Liang Tan’s Gaming Mentality

 

Min-Liang Tan is currently among Singapore’s self-made billionaires. He achieved this feat from an endeavor that he did not initially foresee. However, The Razer CEO recognizes that his competitive gaming mentality has propelled him this far. He has accumulated such wealth since 2005 when he partnered with Robert Krakoff and founded Razer.

Min-Liang Tan ceased practicing in law and started a new business venture; he initially wanted to augment gaming. Krakoff and his partner in Razer targeted to become better competitors by developing better gaming tools such as the mouse, other software and providing a payment platform. Their first project at Razer was the Boomslang mouse that provided more speed and precision in gaming.

With Tan’s competitive spirit gained through gaming, Min-Liang Tan could not stop at producing a mouse and other hardware. They went ahead and developed a whole ecosystem. They are currently pursuing a Razer banking license and production of face masks as coronavirus prevention measures.

Tan’s gamer mentality is evident in Razer’s operations. The company is constantly geared towards the next challenge and even recently faced criticism of excessive work demands, which exemplifies Tan’s mentality. However, Min-Liang Tan does not stop. Apart from being the CEO at Razer, Min-Liang Tan also holds a Master of Laws Degree from the National University of Singapore. He is also a resident and citizen of Singapore. After his education in law, Tan pursued his law career, which he resigned in 2005 to start Razer Inc, a company that develops gaming hardware and software. Razer expanded from gaming to other technologies, such as the Razer smartphone. Min-Liang Tan has been nominated on Forbes lists; he ranked 48 in Singapore’s list of the 50 richest people.
