Igor Cornelsen originated from Curitiba, Brazil, where he was born on Oct 4, 1947. In 1965, he joined The Federal University of Parana to pursue an engineering course. By then, it was the only institution with the school of engineering in both Parana and Santa Catarina. As a result, it was highly competitive, and winning an admission slot was a great achievement. Surprisingly, Igor changed his mind and chose to pursue economic after two years of studying engineering.

Igor Cornelsen completed the economic course and acquired a bachelor’s degree in 1970. After this, he started working at an investment bank. This was common for most engineers, then due to their outstanding skills in calculating compound interest rate by use of slide rules. It was a unique skill since computers and calculators were rarely used.
Igor Cornelsen made himself a great name in the banking department, which finally won him a post at Rio as an investment banker. He fought to be the best in his team and finally won promotion to the Multibanco’s Board of Directors in 1974. Two years down the line, in 1976, he further got another promotion to the Chief Executive Officer. In 1978, Bank of America acquired Multibanco allowing Igor to venture into other areas.
Igor Cornelsen got a job with Unibanco, a top investment firm in Brazil. Igor served Unibanco up to 1985, after which he left due to the inflation crisis. Mr. Cornelsen moved to Libra Bank PLC: a London-based Merchant Bank. It was unique in that it was the first time he got his salary in USDs, introducing an entirely new world of investment opportunity. As usual, Igor became very successful and shifted to Standard Chartered Merchant Bank with all his London peers. He represented Brazil and also served as a member of the Board of Directors.
